State Challenges

State voting challenges are nonpartisan competitions between higher education institutions in a particular state with a commitment to increasing student voter participation and engagement on campuses across the state. Departments of State, Secretaries of State, and nonprofit partners co-facilitate the voting challenges in collaboration with the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge.

Awards given through state challenges are based on campuses’ National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE) reports generated by the Institute for Democracy & Higher Education at Tufts University in Mass. Participation in state challenges will automatically include participation in the national ALL IN Challenge and awards competition. Institutions that opt into the state challenges will be provided guidance and tools to create a democratic engagement action plan for increasing student engagement on their campus.
